Stress Fracture
I have diagnosed my foot with a stress fracture in the second Metatarsal. this happened due to increased intensity without the proper conditioning and training through too much serious pain. there are a few significant results of this diagnosis.
Theres not much to be done for an injury like this, and im going to need to continue my resting period for possibly a few more weeks than i had planned. im not too worried about that, but more importantly, when i start training, im going to have to incorporate much more active prevention and recovery.
What this means for all Randylions who are going to be training around me most of the time is that, hopefully, we can all help eachother out in getting some great lowerleg/foot strengthing drills done at least twice a week. tedious stuff to keep up for an entire summer or season, but, as ive found, ridiculously important when you are trying to train at a higher level of intensity.
Also, im considering more rest, as in only training 6 days a week... but im not really sure how i like that idea, i know that it's an ongoing debate in distance training and that as many acclaimed coaches who condone it are against it. My problem would be getting in the mileage in only 6 days, and clearly, if its not better to just keep a long slow run in instead.
id appreciate some feed back on this last idea, so comment at will. also, hopefully whatever conclusion we come to, we will all try our best to support eachother through this stuff. drills are hard to do, and runs are hard to keep slow when a bunch of guys are in kick ass shape. we gotta keep our heads on and not overtrain. i know that in the last few seasons, that has been my problem... i dont give myself enough recovery.

thats what my foot probably looks like, sept i have the fracture on my second metatarsal, and i dont think its as bad as this one, you probably wouldnt even be able to see the break, but just the swelling for me.

I agree, Kev and I had a discussion about this and he knows that I take drills pretty seriously. I see drills as a way to prevent injury and also strengthen and add to our endurance. Rest days are crucial and should be done either through taking a full day of rest or running light and slow. Either way at this advanced stage of competition the workouts have to become more specialized and taking rest days at your own discretion while remaining consistent is key. I think we are all on the same page. Each of us just has to take a real good look in the mirror and know our own limits and keep ourselves healthy so we can out race and out endure anyone we go up against.
